DC Water has been co-hosting its annual Ward Town Hall Meetings with District Councilmembers, with one meeting happening in each Ward in a new, virtual format utilizing the Microsoft Teams platform. Residents can also phone in to listen. Both virtual and phone formats allow residents to ask questions.
Meetings for Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 took place in June and early July. Since Ward 2’s has already passed, feel free to attend one of the remaining two meetings as much of the same information will be shared. Ward 8’s meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 14; the Ward 6 meeting takes place on Wednesday, July 15. Both begin at 6:30 pm.
The primary purpose of the Town Halls is to share with residents important information on the proposed rates for FY 2021. In addition to rates, DC Water’s management team will be available to address resident questions and concerns on other topics such as water quality, sewer services, water conservation, wastewater treatment, construction projects, infrastructure maintenance and emergency repairs, community outreach, DC Clean Rivers Project, employment opportunities, governance, customer assistance programs, finance, lead, and billing.
Resident feedback from the meetings is shared with DC Water’s Board of Directors prior to its annual Public Rates Hearing on Wednesday, August 5, at 6:30 pm. Resident feedback during the Town Halls and Rates Hearing is very important, as their comments are heavily considered by the Board while voting on the proposed rate increase on October 1.
Residents who wish to testify at the hearing should contact Board secretary Linda Manley by email or at (202) 787-2332 to sign up to testify.
