With the help of many volunteers from Burleith and an enthusiastic group of GU students, GU Facilities, and GU Office of Neighborhood Life, the Burleith Citizens Association conducted its annual fall community clean-up on Saturday, November 9. Volunteers picked up litter, bulk items, yard and medical waste, and more!  We had a good turnout for such a chilly morning with many new faces and even some kid-sized helpers with parents.

Special thanks to all—especially to Janice Sims, community leader and co-chair of the Georgetown Community Partnership Environment and Landlord Initiatives Working Group, whose many years of volunteering have helped keep Burleith beautiful.

(In 2008 the Alice Ferguson Foundation began developing a regional public outreach and education campaign to understand the root causes of littering and to change littering behaviors. Its “Your Litter Hits Close to Home” campaign has expanded to all of DC’s eight wards with litter prevention tools that include yard signs, posters, banners, reusable bags, litter cans, water bottles, bookmarks, and stickers.)
