Since the restoration project was announced at the BCA annual meeting in November, generous BCA members, other residents, and a Burleith Bell advertiser have contributed nearly 60 percent of the estimated $13,500 needed to restore our neighborhood’s five call boxes. An anonymous $1,000 challenge grant in the opening weeks of the drive spurred a spate of $100+ donations. In fact, we now have adequate funding to begin the restoration process for three of the five boxes!

Don’t be left out. We are extremely grateful to those of you who have so generously given to the call box restoration fund. More than a fifth of BCA member households have contributed, and we’re aiming for 100 percent participation. The average gift has been over $200.

We urge all Burleith residents and BCA members to continue to send tax-deductible donations, regardless of amount, to the Burleith Community Fund (BCF) so that we can reach our goal of restoring all five boxes. You may donate online (where you can view a photo illustration of a restored call box), or mail a check along with a completed donation form.

Established by the BCA Board and led by Ross Schipper, the Call Box Committee is composed of the Burleith History Group and representatives from the Public Works and Beautification Committee. Funding expenditures are authorized by BCF president Kay Twomey.
