Editor’s Note: Originally published on August 24, this post has been updated to clarify what the BCA is tracking.

The Burleith Citizens Association (BCA) is tracking litter in our neighborhood, and we need your help to make this effort effective. Toward this end, we have asked that you report trash problems to our new mailbox, trash@burleith.org.

We are specifically interested in tracking litter as defined as trash left in public places (e.g., food containers, cups, bags, paper, rubber gloves, medical waste, etc.) and that if left uncollected would pile up in our neighborhood, creating a health hazard and blight while making its way into our waterways.

The BCA reporting system does not include mismanaged residential trash bins, including overflowing trash and recycling-related issues, piles of trash near trash bins, and/or bulk waste—especially in alleys. These alley trash/recycling issues should be reported by contacting the DC Department of Public Works (DPW) through the 311.dc.gov service.

Please send your reports to trash@burleith.org with “Litter” as the subject line and provide the following information:

  • location

  • time/date

  • description

  • a photo if possible

We will not be responding to individual messages. We will keep the neighborhood apprised of the results and actions taken to improve the situation. Thank you for your assistance.
