SOME Gift Drive

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and a great time to give back to the community—specifically those in need.

After a year off, the Burleith Community Fund (BCF) is once again organizing our community to support the annual Holiday Shoebox Drive for So Others Might Eat (SOME).  It’s a wonderful way to focus on those less fortunate than us during the holidays, and it’s a great project for kids, as well.

We are asking any neighbor whois interested to assemble and wrap their own boxes by Monday, December 6. This year, to maintain social distancing, we will not be hosting a community event to assemble and wrap the boxes.

Each neighbor should decide how many boxes they will make and whether your boxes will be for men, women, or children. SOME has provided a specific checklist list of items that must go into each box, based on who it is for.  Each shoebox must include each item requested—no substitutions or additions, please. The list is attached here and it can be emailed to you as well by request. Each shoebox should be wrapped with the top and bottom separately so that they can be easily opened without ripping the paper (we call this TV show wrapping). Feel free to be creative with the box decorations.  If you have extras of any supplies and wish to donate them, please put them in a separate bag when you drop them off.

If you are interested in participating, please email Liane Jones at lianejones00@gmail.com to let her know how many boxes you plan to donate and to coordinate dropping boxes off so that we can have them delivered to SOME.  Please have your boxes completed by December 6.
