President’s Message

By Eric Langenbacher, president@burleith.org

I hope all is well and that you are making it through the heat and humidity. I have a couple of updates:

  • As part of my participation in the on-going Georgetown Transportation Study, I have scheduled a Burleith neighborhood walk-through with several folks from the Department of Transportation on Thursday, August 24, at 10 am. We will meet in front of Hardy at 35th and T. All are welcome to tag along.

  • The Department of Parks and Recreation has rescheduled the meeting on the future of Ellington Field to Thursday, September 7, at 6 pm at the Georgetown Public Library.

  • There was a meeting last week about the Jelleff Recreation Center project. The design team presented two sets of plans for a brand-new building (both with a full and half gym). A third option, containing two full-sized gyms, was requested.

  • In case you missed it, the Department of General Services addressed the on-going noise concerns from the temporary chiller at Hardy Middle School: “Moving forward the temporary chiller should start at 8 am and turn off at 4 pm, Monday through Friday only. The unit should not run over the weekend. We will be onsite this coming Saturday to ensure this is the case. Note that we will need to adjust this run schedule when we get closer to the normal school year.” Also, they will have more details soon about the timeline to install a permanent unit.

  • Georgetown Village has graciously allowed the BCA to store our stuff on their premises in the old Fillmore School building. We recently moved everything from the dilapidated shed and assembled a shelf in the Village space.

    All the best!
