Time for Spring Cleaning

By Janice Sims, simsjanice2@gmail.com

Join your neighbors on Saturday, May 30, for the semiannual clean-up sponsored by the BCA, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and Georgetown University, whose trucks will pick up trash and bulk waste. We’ll meet at the 38th Street entrance of Ellington Field at 9 am and fan out through the neighborhood for the next two hours. The Department of Public Works’ Helping Hands program will provide supplies—rakes, brooms, shovels, and trash bags—but please bring your own gloves. Coffee and bagels will be served.

We encourage residents to focus first on their own blocks and alleys. Instead of designated trash collection points as in the past, GU trucks will drive through all of Burleith’s alleys to pick up oversized waste. Please make sure anything you would like them to pick up is next to your trash cans by 9 am and marked clearly. If it is not picked up by 11 am, it will be your responsibility to follow DPW’s bulk pick up procedures to avoid a violation from DPW and possible fine.

Trash not your thing? You can also help by doing some weeding at the field!
