As turkey vultures circled effortlessly overhead, the Burleith Hiking Group toasted its 50th hike since its founding in April 2012 with Finnish Lapponia cloudberry liqueur atop Sugarloaf Mountain. The March 26 5.5-mile loop hike on the blue-blazed Northern Peaks trail was strenuous with total ascents of 1,000 feet, but the views from the top of the mountain and from the White Rocks overlook point were spectacular. Our group of four spent a good amount of time taking in the perfect blue sky as well as the geological features and striking beauty of Sugarloaf Mountain, a Registered Natural Landmark.

Our hikes are usually about 5 miles long and take place on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month at one of the many venues in Washington, DC, and in nearby Maryland and Virginia. We average about five members per hike and are always looking for others to share our love of the outdoors. To receive email notification about Hiking Group activities, contact us at (202) 333-2826.

Burleith Special Interest Groups (BSIGs) are a BCA membership benefit that brings together BCA members with shared interests in Burleith history, dining, gardening, hiking, movies, and reading (English and French). Interested in joining one of our BSIGs? Visit our BSIG web page for more information.
