Ready to Rake. This year’s fall leaf collection program runs from November 4 through January 24. Loose and bagged leaves placed in the tree box (or at the curb if there is no tree box) will be composted. Bagged leaves placed where your trash and recycling are collected will not be composted.
Burleith is located in Ward 2’s D boundary area.
Pick Up #1. Rake leaves out by Sunday, November 24. Leaves will be collected from November 25 to November 30.
Pick Up #2. Rake leaves out by Sunday, December 29. Leaves will be collected from December 30 to January 4.
Please note that rain, snow, and ice storms will disrupt the collection schedule and cause delays. Leaves will not be collected on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Year’s Day.
For more information, visit the DPW Leaf and Holiday Tree Collection web page.
Holiday Trees and Greenery. Holiday trees and greenery will be collected between January 14 and February 2. Residents in DPW-serviced households should place their trees and greenery where their trash and recyclables are normally collected. Trees and greenery collected during these three weeks (and those brought to the Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations) will be composted and made available to residents for free. When you set your trees and greenery out for collection, please remove all ornaments and lights; do not put trees and greenery in a bag. After February 2, place holiday trees and greenery where your trash is collected. They will be picked up with your trash as space in our trucks permits. Unfortunately, trees and greenery collected after February 2 will not be composted.
