Jackson Open Studios

Stop by the Jackson Art Center on Sunday, May 5, noon to 4 pm, for its annual Spring Open Studios. Some 40 artists working in diverse media will be showing their work. Music, refreshments, and a children’s art workshop will add to the afternoon fun.

Make sure to swing by studio 9B (a half flight up from the main entrance on R Street) where Burleith’s Jeannette Murphy has her studio. According to a statement on her website, “After a 30-year career in international development, I returned to my old loveart—and have been a professional artist for the past 18 years. I both paint (oils and watercolor) and sculpt (fired ceramics). My subjects are diverse, but I am best known for my portraits.” As many of you will recall, Jeanie created the bas-relief sculpture for the “patriotism and espionage” call box at 37th and R.
