Since no circus-themed picnic would be complete without trained animals, we are pleased to offer an encore presentation of Burleith’s popular Top Dog Contest. This electrifying spectacle pits purebreds and rescues, trainers and owners in a high-stakes (yet good-natured) competition of derring-do, obedience, agility, and grooming. So put your pet through its paces and show off your dog-handling skills before two discerning judges and a live audience.

Entrants will compete for valuable prizes donated by Petco in four categories:

Best trick
Best dressed
Cutest
Top Dog (Best in Show)

Serving as distinguished judges are Maria McCullough, a professional dog trainer and proud owner of a Papillon mix who loves giving hugs, and Maureen Long, owner of two Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, one of whom was shown competitively and is currently the AKC image for the breed. (But they most love “escorting” people up and down 39th Street from within the confines of their fence.)

All entrants must register by 5 pm at the Petco table. (Download and complete the registration form or fill it out at the table.) Judging will take place at 6 pm. May the best dogs win!
