Gløgg Party Spices Up a Winter Afternøøn
/By David Bachner
On Sunday, January 25, Linda Brooks and Ross Schipper hosted the 4th Annual Burleith Winter Gløgg Party in their home at 3600 T Street. Sponsored by the Burleith Citizens Association, the event is fast becoming an institution in our community and a delightful opportunity for neighbors to meet, renew acquaintances, and talk with elected leaders, Georgetown University officials, and BCA board members.
Nearly 70 BCA members, non-member residents, and special guests enjoyed a lavish spread, cold drinks, and the party’s signature libation. Made from a secret recipe passed down from Ross’s Norwegian grandmother, gløgg is basically mulled red wine with spices and a dash of spirits. Guests included DC councilmember Jack Evans and his aide Ruth Werner, ANC2E chair Ron Lewis, Current publisher and editor Davis Kennedy, and Georgetown University staff members Cory Peterson, Candace Mosley, and Theon O’Connor.
Linda and Ross organized the first of these events in 2012 as a way to "stave off the winter blues." Through their generous hospitality, we are fortunate that a charming Scandinavian tradition has now become an enjoyable Burleith event.
