Kids Ride Free

By Eli Hoffman, DC Office of Family and Public Engagement, DCPS

Did you know that students ages 5-21 enrolled in DC Public Schools and public charter schools can use their DC One Card to ride Metrobus and Metrorail for free? Please note that some important changes have been made to the program for this year:

  • Students do not need to register for the program online. Simply tap your DC One Card at the fare gate/box starting the first day of school to activate the Kids Ride Free pass.
  • There are no longer time restrictions on when the benefit can be used. Students can ride to get to school or school-related activities all day, every day (including weekends).
  • Private school students are required to register online at www.dconecard.dc.gov to participate in the Kids Ride Free on Bus program. Private school students are not eligible for the free rail benefit.
